New Florida Residents

New Florida Residents

On 7 August 2012 we arrived in Green Cove Springs, Florida after driving from Kemah, Texas where our boat was located. We headed for 411 Walnut Street, the location of St. Brendan's Isle, our mail forwarding service provider. We found 411 Walnut Street, but it was not the location of St. Brendan's Isle - they had moved but kept the address location. The folks inside the Marine Services office, located there, provided us directions to where St. Brendan's Isle was really located - they stated many folks have asked this question. St. Brendan's Isle office was located a short drive away as map below indicates.

We drove north on Highway 17 and made a left turn on county road CR 315. We made another left turn into the building complex and parked in the lot in front of office number 102 - the new physical location of St. Brendan's Isle.

We went inside and were greeted warmly. Mary Ann was fascinated by the fish in their tank - they even let her feed them.

They checked our identification and retrieved the mail we had waiting. Next we discussed our real purpose for our onsite visit - to become legal Florida residents. They provided forms and instructions on who we needed to visit and provided directions to the local County Court House.

At the Court House, first we filled out a Declaration of Domicile form and it was notarized. Legally we were now Florida residents.

Next we applied for and were issued new Florida driver licenses and personal identification cards.

We also applied for Florida registration and license plate for our Ford F-350 truck with a Lance camper mounted in its bed.

The last formality was registering to vote at the Clay County Supervisor of Elections located at 500 N Orange Ave, Green Cove Springs.

This was a milestone day for us as we broke all legal ties with the state of California and became new Florida residents.

Goodbye California

Goodbye California

17 July 2012.

This was a milestone day for us!  With only our scaled down possessions loaded into our Ford F-350 truck equipped with a Lance camper, we departed California with no regrets.

The sky was a brilliant blue without a cloud of doubt insight.  With our house emptied of years of accumulated "stuff" and posted for sale, our new home had wheels and they were rolling us into an unknown, but much anticipated future.   There was no looking back with thoughts of regret, as what lays ahead is what our "dreams" envisioned, except it was no longer a dream, but reality!
