The installation concept for a public address (PA) hailer or speaker entails a speaker connected with two wires to a capable radio. We choose the location for the PA hailer to be under the radar dome mounted on the main mast at about a height of 21 feet. How to mount the speaker at that location we were not sure of. The wires were to be run internal to the mast and have a connection point at the mast base, internal to the boat, to allow the wires to be easily disconnected for mast removal. A separate two wire run would be installed from the internal connection point below the mast base to a radio located a the navigation desk.
We had already selected an Icom IC-M424G-21 Fixed Mount VHF Radio with GPS to replace Indra's old VHF radio. We had downloaded the Icom IC-M424G-21 VHF Radio manual and it stated for the PA hailer: "Connect a PA speaker rated at more than 10 W at 10% distortion with a 4 ohm load." We selected a Newmar PA-8W Deck Hailer Horn rated at 8 W nominal 12 W peak with a 8 ohm impedance; and because it had a small physical size.

On 29 March 2015 we ordered a Newmar PA-8W Deck Hailer Horn from Defender's website at a cost of $14.39. This item was shipped to our balikbayan box consolidator and forwarder Manila Forwarder in Los Angles, California and received there on 17 April 2015. We received this item in Naga City, Cebu on 23 June 2015.
A Blue Sea 2506 30 Ampere 6 Circuit Terminal Block at a cost of $6.62, a 100-foot roll of 16/2 AWG Duplex Tinned Marine Wire at a cost of $33.50, and eight electrical terminals at a estimated cost of $0.25 each were ordered and received separately.
Next step is to determine when to install this.
